In December, the SNB lowered rates by 50 basis points, bringing the cash rate to 0.5%. Further supporting the case for policy loosening, the Swiss economy grew by just 0.2% q/q in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from 0.4% in Q3, marking the weakest expansion since Q2 2023.

The annual inflation rate in Switzerland eased slightly to 0.3% in February 2025, the lowest since April 2021, down from 0.4% in January, marking the sixth month of inflation below 1%.

With inflation declining rapidly, the Swiss National Bank faces mounting pressure to cut interest rates further.
